It´s for the birds My day

Finally Birds for me!!

I love birds, below are my pet birds Knut and Sixten

The lovely free birds outside are  now busy nesting during the long days here in Scandinavia.
My favorite bird except Knut and Sixten are  the lovely blackbird, which sings so beautifully.

Listen to his sing here

I have during the years made many things with appliquéd blackbirds and other birds too  on quilts and I therefore have to come up with something else with birds on.

Why don´t carry the birds with me ? And have them on something recycled and inspired from traditional embroidery design and folk art  from the southern part of Sweden.

I started sketching on one bird at first and thinking of what material to use on my appliqué and my embroidery.

Why don´t make another purse , as I am a baglady and I could always use a new purse.
And the recycled fabric came from an old pair of jeans.

I have made two purses before from Michelles pattern small messenger bag and I think that this purse is very practical and has a good size.

To make this purse I needed one pair of jeans, some wool and cotton scraps and some yardages for lining, the wonderful  Precencia Finca yarn bought from Jane.
It is better to use jeans that have no stretch, why I prefer the men jeans, but you could use jeans with stretch if you put   interface on the back of the fabric.
I have sewn the appliqué with button hole stitches on my sewing machine and the embroideries and the embellishment are made by hand stitching.
The binding in purple is one of my favorite Kaffe fabrics and I think that I got the traditional look on my birds. Isn´t he a cool bird  and he  could easily brighten up a cloudly day, don´t you think?.
Front very close

On the cliffs in Limhamn
On the back of the purse I have first taken off the pocket, made the appliqué and the embroideries
added some embellishments and then lined the pocket before sewing it on the jeans fabric again.
This piece was taken from the back part  of the pair of jeans. I had a smile on my face making this small funny bird. Maybe he is looking for a worm or something else to eat. As I have used this piece with the original pocket on the outside pocket of the purse I have now two practical pockets on the back of the purse.
Very close picture of the back
A lovely scrap from my Kaffe Fasset´s stash on the inside of the front flap

And here are some beautiful pictures of the bag on the cliffs in Limhamn with glimpses
of the the channel  Öresund the sea  between Sweden and Denmark.

I hope that you love my purse as much as I do. I had the purse on Show and Tell last Saturday at my guild meeting and the ladies were very excited over the purse. And if you want to make a purse of your own, get some of your men´s old jeans and a pattern from Michelle and start the fun.
Thanks to the charming ladies Madame Samm and Mary for coming up with this wonderful blog hop.

I hope that I have put some smiles on your faces ! Continue having fun and pop over to the other participating creative and inspiring ladies with their birds

Splitterkvilt / Sliver Quilt

I have taken a class in the local quilt shop last Saturday. The teacher had bought Lisa O ´Neill´s book
Sliver Quilt and has been inspired to make a class project using her technique. It was so fun that I couldn´t stop finishing the top on Saturday and then quilting it yesterday. It is a small quilt top 18x18 inches and I will use it on my sofa table. I love it how it turned out and the book is on my wish list.
The fabric is of course from Laurel Burch, one of my favorite designers.

Smala böjda Kaffe remsor / Narrow bowed Kaffe strips

I have at last taken a picture of my latest projekt, a table runner with narrow strips from different Kaffe Fasset fabric. This technique is so fun to use, just starting with one inch strips and then cut them more as you have sewn one seam. I have learned it from my friend Karin, who has been on a class for a Swedish teacher Yvonne Kervinen,
I just love the way to make it and there will surely be more from me with narrow strips.

Madame Samm And I love Tammy too

Madame Samm on Sew We Quilt has today announced a new blog hop to make Tammy, a super duper purse to have all your necessary things you are desperately looking for in your sewing room, when you are sewing. The scissors may have legs of their own.
But there is a help for preventing them running away
Make your own Tammy, here is Madame Samm´s and join her blog hop.
As the Bag Lady in US  doesn´t deliver over seas , I have found an other shop
in China Gina Purse Frame, which will send  to Europe.
I have bought from shop before, and the shop has wonderful things that a girl who loves to make purses can´t live without. And their shipment fees are good.
I couldn´t resist order some more things that I thought I needed. Some beautiful handles with strawberries Cute aren´t they.
Good luck to find beautiful frames.

April Shower My day

It is at last Spring time in Malmö in the south of Sweden.

The wonderful time in April  with birds starting to nest and the buds swells and will soon burst.
It is a lovely time of the year, even if there will be some unexpected showers.
I love this time of the year.
A romantic feeling of April

I thought  that it was  a lovely theme to work with when I started to imagine what images  to make.

I began first of all to sketch a branch with flowers and leaves  and then transfer it to a piece of fabric.
I think that it imagines  my idea of April showers, even if we this year don´t have any flowers on the bushes yet.

My lovely mug from Marimekko Finland

My second idea was to make something with an umbrella.

Why not together with a bird, as I love birds.

And it became very whimsical and funny.

Don´t you think, it is  so  funny with the  cute bird seeking shelter under the umbrella?
Sometimes it is good with a feather light umbrella

You have no seen my imaginations of April showers. You must now hop over to all the creative ladies that share my  blog hop April Showers  day.

My day in Stitch Me Up

I started to love embroidery when I was a small girl and since then I have embroidered now and then.
Until ten years ago you could find small shops with embroidery as their specialty in the towns, but nowadays they are really hard to find. My home town is the third town in Sweden, but I think there is not a single embroidery shop left. I haven´t found any, maybe some yarn shop that has a small area with embroidery and embroidery yarns. It is so sad, as it is so comforting to sit down and stitch and contemplate. Time and thoughts fly away and you so relaxed. I think that embroidering is one of the things modern working women should try in order to relax.

But first of all I like to thank lovely  Madame Samm to make up this adventure with embroidery blog hop and Jane for being a wonderful cheer leader for us all.
And what should we have done with out the pattern designers Debbie Martinez from Busy as Can Be Cyndi from Bee Tree Designs and Madam Samm, who all have contributed with fantastic patterns.

There were so many patterns to choose among , so it was a difficult task. It was not so difficult to figure out what to sew, as I am a bag lady, LOL.
I have made several purses for my sewing notions, but a sewing girl couln´t get enough of these things, don´t you think.
I had decided to make an old fashioned sewing purse with four out side pockets covered with the cute flower patterns made by Debbie.
And to make it more old fashioned I thought that  some ribbons wouldn´t hurt at all. But as I like bright and bold colors I choose a strong orange, not old fashioned at all. I love the contrasts.

And why not present my purse with my dear Henrietta, a lovely  lady from 1952. And isn´t she cute together with the sewing purse and the needle case. By the way Henrietta came to me five years ago and she was a find, only 50 dollars, bought on the Swedish Ebay, Tradera. I gave her the name after my mother´s grandmother. She is so neat to use and I love the humming sound from her, when she is working.
I had first taken some pictures in side my apartment, but as they didn´t turned out good, we take a tour out in the front of the house to take better shots . It is cold outside, but clear weather and the snow has begun to melt. I hope it will soon be Spring.

Henrietta with company

I have also personalized one of the pockets with my name and year.

I made a simple but cute needle case to be a companion to the purse.

I hope that you have enjoyed looking at my projects, and maybe I should make a pattern of the purse with some embroideries and embellishments of my own. I have never used Craftsy to publish my patterns, but it could be a good idea to try.
It is sadly the last day of this wonderful blog hop session, but there is time to hurry over to find out what the other creative ladies have been up to.
Here are my companions for today

Hill Valley Quilter ( That´s Me)

As it soon is Easter I will cheer you up with this picture from a small town in the south of Sweden. I got it yesterday from a friend to my Iphone .
I wonder what a giant egg has  hidden this chicken. LOL

Have a great Easter
